Create A WebsiteWhy do I need a website?

Building a website and a social media following online is critical if you want to be found by your customers

Long gone are the days where people reached for the paper based telephone directory to look up the phone number of their local business or service. These days, literally everything is online; from your hairdresser, pet shop, supermarket, even tradesmen like plumbers, builders and meticulous maids.  In fact, if you’re not online, you are highly likely to be losing customers and money from your niche or business.

But there’s so many choices!

I agree, there are a huge selection of free and paid website services out there, which can be absolutely mind boggling if you’re trying to sort the good from the bad.

The important thing to remember is that whatever path you decide to take, you need to make sure that your website can be easily scaled up and added to as your online business grows, without costing you a fortune every time you want to make a change, or; add functionality, pages, email accounts, or storage to your website.

Website Basics

Components of a basic website include;

  • A Domain Name
  • Website Hosting Provider
  • Content Management System
  • Email hosting
  • Security & SPAM protection

A Simple Solution – with ‘industry heavyweight’ backing

I particularly like the SiteRubix platform, as it bundles all of these components into a single, easy to navigate ‘user interface,’ which believe me, makes life a whole lot easier! Everything is at your fingertips, including step by step training guides which will have you up and running in absolutely no time flat.

The SiteRubix platform is integrated with WordPress, arguably the most powerful and popular website management and blogging platform in use on the web. To give you an idea of just how popular, industry heavyweight WordPress supports in excess of 60 million websites globally. Because WordPress is open source, new features and functionality are being added all the time.

WordPress is extremely well set up to use plugins, which can give your website extra functionality, such as a shopping cart, building an email list, optimization for google & search engines, add galleries and image libraries and social media buttons to your pages and content.

I have used WordPress for numerous projects in the past and it has more fruit than an orchard, which can be off putting if you only need a basic website. It’s a bit like swatting a fly with a sledgehammer. After all, WordPress didn’t become the industry heavyweight it is today, without being, well, heavy! This has been neatly solved through the SiteRubix platform, you get all that power, but it’s neatly packaged and ordered in an easily navigable content management system.

How much will my Website Cost?

If you’re not ready to purchase your own domain name, you can still choose a domain name and build a website on the SiteRubix platform absolutely free. If you choose this option, your website address will look like this; If, and when, you are ready, you can upgrade to your website to a .com or .net etc. domain at any time which gives a more professional look to your website.

This is a great option as you get access to all the free training material provided by SiteRubix and partner Wealthy Affiliate, without it costing you a cent.

Thanks for this post and for the heads up about siterubix platform. You say that we can start for free and get some training as well, which sounds great. Do you have any tips on choosing a domain name or does it not matter as long as it is related to your niche? I’ve heard some people say that you need a .com address but wondered what your take on that was. Thanks for all the advice you are posting.

Hi Gail, unless you are working in a very regionally specific niche (like say New Zealand), I would recommend a .com domain name related to your niche. My preference is domain names that are related to the niche, not too long and avoid the use of special characters and hyphens etc. Hope this helps, Cheers, Karen

I wonder whether a hosting should protect spams or not. I am just a newbie and my website gets a lot of spams lately. Should I download a program or consult with hosting provider?

    • KD Forsman says:

Hi there, with the SiteRubix platform there’s built in spam and hacking protection and several layers of security to shield and keep your website secure. Unfortunately we all have to deal with the occasionally spam comment, but I still prefer to check these manually and delete. Cheers, Karen

  5. I enjoyed reading your article and looking around your site, it is very eye pleasing and easy to navigate. I totally agree with you that WordPress is the Bomb! Just great to build your websites with and I also agree that the Wealthy Affiliate University’s training and hosting platform is the best around, providing everything you need to learn how to blog and host and market your blog site. Hi Shirley,
Thanks very much for checking out my site, and I really appreciate the feedback. Creating a website is definitely putting a wee part of yourself out there for the world to scrutinize, so it’s lovely to hear that the site is eyecatching and easy to navigate. All the best, Cheers, Karen

Great to read a post that doesn’t confuse me. I want to set up my own site but researching the options is mind boggling.
I think I might just give Site Rubix a go, especially as it’s free and there is some training too. That will be really valuable

Hi Karen, thanks for your interest. The thing I love about SiteRubix is that it comes with the backing of Wealthy Affiliate and the community of amazing members that are there to support you every step of the way. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s that ‘whole pay it forward’ philosophy x 100! And even better (if that’s possible), is the sheer amount of training and resources that you can access as part of your membership – so that’s everything from building your first website to advanced topics like pay per click, creating and effective sales funnel, lead generation etc. The list goes on. But if you are wanting to build a website and give the whole online marketing a go – this is the place to be. Best of luck. Cheers, Karen
