Q. How did you first get into this niche?

When I first started making money online, I noticed there were a lot of people buying junk websites from Flippa. They were basically being marketed as starter websites but they were complete BS. They had silly claims about overnight money and autopilot success.

I decided to offer something quality instead, so those same beginners could get a real starter website.

Q. What has been your biggest success in this niche?

We’ve been featured multiple times on Entrepreneur.com and a lot of other industry websites. I also spoke at a conference in 2017.

Q. What has been the most challenging part of your journey so far?

Learning how to build and grow a business, and also learning how to deal with impatience. Success doesn’t come quickly and at many times you’ll feel like you’re making zero progress.

Q. Name three essential tools of your trade and explain why are they so important to your business.

  1. WordPress. Couldn’t do anything without it.
  2. Ahrefs, it’s the best seo tool.
  3. Google Docs. My entire team share a lot of Docs and Sheets and the fact they’re in the cloud makes it so much easier for us to all work remotely.

Shares
Q. What do you think are emerging trends in 2018?

People are moving towards bigger, more authoritative sites. This has been a trend happening for a few years though. Smaller 10-page micro-niche sites don’t work anymore.

Shares
Q. What is the one piece of advice you would give to someone starting out in your niche and why?

Don’t start out in this niche.

Shares
Q. What is the most embarrassing screw up you’ve had on social media?

Wouldn’t say it was a screw up, but sometimes ranting about something on a friend’s post on Facebook. It shows up to your other friends even though they might not be friends with the person you’re commenting to.

Shares
Q. If you woke up and had 2,000 unread emails and could only answer 300, how would you choose which to answer?

Sounds like you see my inbox every day. I would scan the inbox for anything that looked important, and I’d respond to those. Then I’d just go back to wherever I last finished and work through.

Q. You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What would you do with the elephant?

“Teach it how to become a cat.”

“This business is now my main source of income, there’s no such thing as an average day for me, every day is different.” Dom Wells, HumanProofDesigns

    Wonderful case study Karen.

The one thing that really hit me was when he said that

    Q. What do you think are emerging trends in 2018?
People are moving towards bigger, more authoritative sites. This has been a trend happening for a few years though. Smaller 10-page micro-niche sites don’t work anymore.

That fits right in with what I have been learning about creating a lot of content and becoming an expert in your niche. Expert or authoritative.

I look forward to your next post.

Hi Rick, thanks for your feedback. There were so many insights in this post, it’s definitely given me food for thought about my approach to affiliate marketing as well as my writing. His comment about micro sites was just one example. Stay tuned for the next case study – it’s another great success story and I’m sure you’ll be as inspired by it as much as I am. Best wishes, Karen

    Hi Karen,

The Q&A that caught my eye was – “Q. What is the one piece of advice you would give to someone starting out in your niche and why?

Don’t start out in this niche.”

Makes perfect sense. If I were to start an affiliate marketing site i would FIRST need to have the ability to demonstrate my own success with online marketing to be successful within that niche.

Thank you for this Karen, I enjoyed the read,

    Cheers, Brad

Hi Brad, Interesting comment and yes, the make money online marketing niche is certainly a tough nut to crack. The great thing about affiliate marketing though, is it doesn’t have to be in the make money online niche – you can choose virtually any topic, whether it’s sports, hobbies, science, health – the sky’s the limit. For someone like us who are starting out, what struck the most waswhen Dom Wells said:
“Learning how to build and grow a business, and also learning how to deal with impatience. Success doesn’t come quickly and at many times you’ll feel like you’re making zero progress.”

We should really keep this is mind. Building business doesn’t happen overnight. Patience is a virtue. As Earl Nightingale said, success is when we make progressive realization towards our goal. Our success began the moment w wrote those goals.
    Wonderful post! Thank you!

Interviews are an excellent way to learn industry secrets. The experts do know best.

I do have a question though. I would like to hear more of the background and reasoning behind some of the answers he gave. On the one piece of advice he would have to give, he said, “don’t start out in this niche.” I think a “do” piece of advice would have been more helpful. Did you not have the opportunity to ask follow up questions? I look forward to hearing your answer.

Thank you for sharing and I hope you make it a great day!

    • KD Forsman says:

Hi Alex, you have raised some good points here and I’ll certainly endeavor to find out the answer for you. Thanks for taking the time to read, it’s good to hear you enjoyed this post. Best wishes, Karen
